Bear

Hi!

I'm one of two proud parents of Bear ("Colin," when we adopted him), a Black & Tan Coonhound mix who had been abandoned with his brothers and sisters in the Puppy Hill Farm driveway. We heard they were in pretty bad shape but by the time they were ready for adoption, you'd have never known it (Kudos to the staff at PHF!). Bear has brought smiles and laughs since I picked him up from the Gainesville PetSmart on May 30, 2009. (You know I must've been touched from the moment I saw Bear's adoption picture because I made a solo drive from my home in Cape Coral--almost four hours away!) Luckily for me, a very nervous first-time dog owner, Bear slept almost the whole way home (except, of course, when he decided to wake up when we stopped at gas stations and bay so embarrassingly loud!). I had to reassure the other customers that I actually rescued him and he didn't need rescuing from me!

Bear took to my husband, me and his new surroundings very quickly. That hasn't changed a bit; he's so sociable--all "smiles and tail wags" with every person or pup he meets. He's smart, got an incredible sense of smell and, I swear, can outrun a greyhound! He loves going to Dog Beach where he can be off-leash and be surrounded with other playful dogs for hours.

Again, as I've never had a dog before, I am thrilled when he learns new tricks and even picks up on day-to-day routines (like knowing that he has to "go" before we go to bed at night or when I fill up his big water jug, he sits by the front door because he knows we're going to the beach!).

I want to send a special thank you to Laurie, who went above and beyond in preparing me for my new puppy. She walked through PetSmart with me and helped me pick out all the necessities (and accessories!) and gave me such valuable advice and reassurance.

I hope his siblings are all in homes with owners who love them as much as we love their brother.

Congratulations on your first 10 years!!

Erin W.
