Standing Out From the Crowd With Our Sanctuary Animals

Puppy Hill Farm operates differently from many other rescues, including keeping a number of unadoptable animals as part of our Sanctuary. These are animals who have either been adopted long ago and returned, or who have had medical or socialization issues that have rendered them less than adoptable. For all of these animals, living their lives out at Puppy Hill Farm is the best life they know. They are safe, housed, well fed, and receive any needed medical attention and annual examinations. Most of them live in mini groups with others whom they have known most of their lives. They romp and play and enjoy having big spacious areas in which to run.

Of course, it is costly to house these animals. The Sanctuary Animals are given heartworm preventative and flea control every month and they receive a vet examination and vaccinations yearly. Some of them are on other medications as well for arthritis or other ailments. Puppy Hill Farm is committed to keeping these animals for the remainder of their lives and has dedicated areas of the farm for these animals. To ensure that we are able to continue to help them, we are offering Sanctuary Sponsorships. For a small monthly donation, you can help ensure that these animals can continue to be housed. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the support of the sanctuary animals.

For a minimum 3-month commitment of $20 per month, you can sponsor the Sanctuary Animal of your choice. Please consider a sponsorship - it is truly a way to help the animals in our community with a minimal commitment.

You can donate with a credit or debit card by clicking the "Donate" button next to an animal's picture. After entering your information, you will automatically be billed $20 per month for 3 months. We are currently developing other ways that you can donate. If you prefer to donate to the sanctuary program a different amount or via another method, please visit our Donate page.

After you donate online, you will be led to a Thank You page that will ask you to email us with the name of the animal you are sponsoring.

The Animal Sanctuary Program is still under Construction. We will be adding more animals, streamlining the page, and adding more features very soon.

Have sone ideas on layout, style, technical add-ons for our sanctuary page? Send us an email at sanctuary@puppyhillfarm.com with your ideas.

Turner

Breed: Lab/Chow Mix
Gender: Male

Turner was found as a stray in a Gainesville subdivision. He has been at PHF since 2003. He does not like to go to adoption events but is very happy at the farm with his best friend Knudley. Turner loves water and likes to cool off in a wading pool or by sticking his feet in the water bucket. Turner is very sweet and loves to be petted and brushed. He gets along great with the other dogs and tries to show off as boss in front of new dogs. He is about 8.

Filbert

Breed: Catahoula Mix
Gender: Male

Filbert was part of a litter that was turned into PHF in 2002 with bad demodex mange. It took several months for them to recover, and Filbert never got well socialized -- he would freeze at adoption events. HE enjoys being outside at the farm and playing with his friends Turner and Knudley. He is not real well socialized, but loves to get his monthly heartworm preventative wrapped in a treat and then be petted.

Tango

Breed: Cattle Dog Mix
Gender: Male

Tango and his littermates were shelter pups that were scheduled to be euthanized. Laurie met a shelter adoption worker on a Sunday afternoon when they were closed and picked up the entire litter. They all came down with demodex mange and Tango never fully got over it. He has been on ivermectin all his life with very little response, but is now starting to grow some hair back after starting on Promeris. We are very hopeful that this will help this gentle, very friendly dog. In spite of his problems, he has a very loving and needy disposition and loves attention.

Disco

Breed: Cattle Dog Mix
Gender: Female

Disco is Tango's sister, one of the pups that were scheduled to be euthanized at the shelter and then came down with demodex mange. Disco recovered but is not very sociable and would rather hang out with her friends than with people. She prefers to be aloof and likes to be outdoors.

Gypsy

Breed: Lab/Chow Mix
Gender: Male

Gypsy was brought to PHF as a stray in 2000. She is a sweet girl and was young and energetic then, but she did not do well at adoption events at PetSmart and actually tried to bite kids a couple of times. Gypsy enjoys life at the farm and will play with her ball and fetch it all day. Now that she is older, she prefers a more quiet life style. She is about 11 and is still in good health.

Squeak

Breed: Shepherd Mix
Gender: Female

Squeak was part of a very shy litter that came to PHF in 2000. She is sweet and loving in her comfort zone, but becomes uncomfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. She suffers from hip displasia and is on daily pain medications. She still enjoys a good quality of life, just at a slightly slower speed. She is good at using her nose to push her way past you and escape from the kennel. She doesn't go anywhere, but enjoys being outside and having all the other dogs bark at her.

Turkey

Breed: Cattle Dog Mix
Gender: Male

Turkey was adopted as a pup several years ago, part of the Thanksgiving Day Litter. He was always pretty shy and we were thrilled when he was adopted. He was returned to PHF in the fall of 2008 because his owners lost their home due to the economy. He prefers to spend his days playing with his roommates or sleeping outside in a shady spot.

BT

Breed: Hound/Shepherd Mix
Gender: Female

BT is a hound/shepherd mix, one of a litter of 14 that PHF took from the shelter in the spring of 2008. All the others have been adopted, but BT was so shy she was always passed up. She was in a foster home for a while, but was clearly uncomfortable there. She enjoys being at the farm, playing with her best friends Ruth and Jazzy.

Ruthy

Breed: Florida Mutt
Gender: Female

Ruthy was one of 3 stray young pups picked up on the side of a busy highway by one of our PHF friends. One of the pups was adopted, but Ruthy and Jazzy are close to feral and will not let you touch them. For them, being in a safe and secure environment with a big shady yard is the most comfort they will ever know.

Jazzy

Breed: Florida Mutt
Gender: Female

Jazzy was one of 3 stray young pups picked up on the side of a busy highway by one of our PHF friends. One of the pups was adopted, but Ruthy and Jazzy are close to feral and will not let you touch them. For them, being in a safe and secure environment with a big shady yard is the most comfort they will ever know.

Jon-Jon

Breed: Lab Mix
Gender: Male

Jon-Jon came to PHF as part of a bottle feeder litter that was about 2-weeks old. He never fully developed socialization skills and is very cautious of human contact. He enjoys his big yard and his friends Chewy and Yoda.

Chewy

Breed: Catahoula Mix
Gender: Male

Chewy was part of a litter that came from the shelter scared and abused. He and his brother Yoda have never developed socialization skills, although Chewy will let you pet him. They are Jon-Jon's best friends.

Yoda

Breed: Catahoula Mix
Gender: Male

Yoda was part of a litter that came from the shelter scared and abused. He and his brother Chewy have never developed socialization skills and it is very hard to get close to Yoda.

Knudley

Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Gender: Male

Knudley came to PHF in 2001 and was adopted along with the rest of his litter. About a year later, his owners called and said they could not afford to keep him because he had health problems. Knudley needed surgery on both of his back legs and it would cost over $1000. So he was returned and our vet did the surgery at a reduced price for us. He has recovered fine but still walks with a limp. He is a very sweet boy and loves attention, but he does not do well at adoption events at Petsmart. He is very happy with his friends Turner, Disco, and Filbert.

Please help us save lives….one life at a time.
